5 Easy Ways to Make Your Toner Last Longer

A few small habits can add hundreds of pages to every cartridge. Here are the five we recommend to every office and home user.

1. Use draft mode for everyday printing

Internal documents, tickets and reading copies rarely need full quality. Draft (or “economy”) mode can cut toner use by up to 50%.

2. Pick a toner-friendly font

Slim fonts like Century Gothic, Garamond or Times New Roman use noticeably less toner than heavy fonts like Arial Black at the same size.

3. Preview before you print

Most wasted pages are accidental: a stray last page with one line of text, or a web page full of ads. Print preview and “print selection” fix both.

4. Shake the cartridge — once

When the low-toner warning appears, remove the cartridge and rock it gently side to side a few times. The remaining toner redistributes and often yields another few hundred pages. Do this once; after that, it really is empty.

5. Print regularly and store spares properly

Long idle periods can cause toner to settle and clump. A weekly test page keeps things moving, and spare cartridges should be stored sealed, flat and away from heat.

When the cartridge finally does run dry, our homepage cartridge finder will match a fresh, 100% genuine replacement to your printer in seconds.
