Standard vs high-yield

Brother TN310 — 2,500 pages, $62.90; Brother TN315 — 6,000 pages, $112.02. The larger cartridges cost more up front but print more pages per dollar — if you print more than a few hundred pages a month, the higher-yield option usually has the lowest cost per page.

The Brother MFC-9970CDW is a color laser: it needs a black cartridge plus cyan, magenta and yellow. Each color runs out at its own pace, so you can replace them one at a time or buy a set.
